Street Art: A How To

There are so many things that we take for granted everyday, the cars that pass us by, the fields behind our house. We assume a street is only interesting if it has some amazing graffiti on the walls or a row of physcadelic multicoloured houses. But with the right mindset anything can be interesting. ( If your interested in pursuing this concept I would recommend How to Be an Explorer of the World by Keri Smith). On Sunday I spent some time outside at dusk which provided a light I wasn't used to photographing in and provided me with interesting insight into our home grown urban technological nature.

This is by far my favourite picture I took that night! The different hues of blue and magical qualities of the light, I can't believe I actually managed to take this in the midst of many, many failed shots!

How to Take Magical Light Pictures:
Set your camera to fireworks mode or make your shutter speed slower ( if you don't know how to do one of these you need to play around with your camera adjusting the settings and maybe reading the guide a little bit too.Shock, Horror!) Then just before it turns dark point your camera at street lights and press the shutter button. Swirl your camera about in random motions to create swirls and twirls and the camera should only pick up the light rather than the lamp-posts.  And voilĂ  you have the pixie dust in the sky, or the lightning in the clouds - wherever your mind takes you!

This "Street art" was simply the convoy of two cars and one van and as it seems they were all conveniently on a magic carpet ride of some sorts!

And if you want to be super funky you can fade the effects onto a separate background to create the effect of lightning, spirits, or angels falling from heaven. There is nothing cooler than a fallen angel.

P.S. I thought my roller skates deserved an honourable mention , so here they are in action! Future Roller Derby girl right here!
